LEEWARD INITIATIVE ADDRESSING DRUG AND ALCOHOL ISSUES IN MASON COUNTY

A coalition formed in 2016 to tackle substance abuse issues in Mason County has formally launched its name and logo. The Leeward Initiative is a multi-agency group formed to address four priority areas: Underage alcohol use, synthetic drug use, use of opiates and heroin, and marijuana use among youth and pregnant/breastfeeding women.

HOW ARE WE ADDRESSING THE OPIATE CRISIS?

Most of us have heard that our country is in the midst of an opioid crisis. Many people wonder what is being done locally to help combat this issue. Beginning in our planning phase, we knew that we needed to do our part to impact the issue. Together with our partners, we’re addressing the local opiate crisis by increasing resources and awareness, educating the community, and connecting prevention and treatment service systems.
